MUSO Reports: USA, Russia, and India Tops the Chart on Digital Piracy With Over 300B Visits to Piracy Websites
“Global data shows more than 300 billion visits to piracy sites in 2017, a 1.6 percent increase from 2016
TV is the most regularly consumed pirated content, with 106.9 billion visits, followed by music (73.9 billion visits) and film (53.2 billion visits)
Across music and TV, mobile devices are used more than desktops to access piracy content – mobiles were used for 87 percent of visits to music sites and 52 percent to TV sites
Streaming websites are the most popular outlet for accessing pirated content, although torrent-based film piracy slightly increased towards the end of the year”
In the city of LONDON united kingdom on the 21st day of  March 2018 – MUSO.COM  reported that worldwide piracy rose by 1.6 percent through  2017. , The global authority on internet piracy identified 300.2 billion visits to piracy websites across music, TV, and film, publishing, and software.
It claimed that more than a third of these visits were to piracy sites hosting television content which stood at 106.9 billion; which is more than music which stood at 73.9 billion and film having 53.2 billion sites visits.
The United States of America is number one on the list with visits to piracy sites at 27.9 billion, followed by Russian Federation  with 20.6 billion and India being the 3rd had over 16 billion visits with the following as reported by MUSO;
4) Brazil (12.7 billion) visits
5) Turkey (11.9 billion)
6) Japan (10.6 billion)
7) France (10.5 billion)
8) Indonesia (10.4 billion)
9) Germany (10.2 billion)
10) United Kingdom (9.0 billion)
Andy Chatterley, co-founder, and CEO, MUSO said
“There is a belief that the rise in popularity of on-demand services – such as Netflix and Spotify – have solved piracy, but that theory simply doesn’t stack up. Our data suggest that piracy is more popular than ever………With the data showing us that 53 percent of all piracy happens on unlicensed streaming platforms, it has become clear that streaming is the most popular way for consumers to access content, whether it be via legitimate channels or illegitimate ones. The piracy audience is huge and yet, for the most part, it’s an opportunity that’s completely ignored. It’s important that the content industries embrace the trends emerging from this data, not only in strategic content protection but also in understanding the profile of the piracy ‘consumer’ for better business insight and monetizing these audiences”
In the TV Piracy trend, the report reveals that vast majority of web visits to these piracy sites were made via web-streaming sites (96.1 percent), with access via mobile devices (51.92 percent) rising up the ranks to become the most popular way of consuming illegitimate content – surpassing desktop for the first time.  Meanwhile, access to piracy websites for music dramatically surged in 2017, increasing to 73.9 billion visits: a 14.7 percent increase from 2016. Interestingly, music stream-ripper piracy decreased in the second half of the year, down by 33.86 percent from the first half. This is most likely a result of the leading global stream-ripper site, youtube-mp3.org, being shut down in September, closely followed by several other popular stream-ripping sites later in the year.
From the report, it is worthy of note that Mobile heavily outweighs desktop when it comes to the devices used for accessing pirated music. A massive 87.13 percent of visits are through mobile devices, compared to just 12.87 percent from desktops.
